People tend to forget that the cat is just as much of a working animal, historically speaking, as the horse and the dog. Our interactions with all of these animals are, in this age, in this part of the world, largely for pleasure, but all three have been critical to man's rise.
The interesting thing is that the cat's basic nature has, quite arguably, been altered least, as it was most naturally suited for what we needed it to do.
I have always treasured my tabby cats' markings as evidence of their wild origins. It reminds me not to take the gift of their friendship too lightly.
I love your conclusion! A couple days ago there was a news release about a genetic study done here at UC Davis on the origin of domestic cats in the Fertile Crescent.
